Road 1 is a photo project I had shot at Iceland on Oct/Nov 2013 Oct/Nov 2014 .
Iceland is one of the geological youngest countries in the planet and closest to the Arctic North Pole Circle, and a hostile territory during nearly all year round.
Long and intense winters, the most active volcanoes on earth and a unpredictable weather makes the population density to be one of the lowest in the world, living 75% of the people in Reykjavik and its surroundings.
I have done two photo trips around Iceland's Road 1. This main route which encircles the entire perimeter of the country is the one I have chosen to look for human activity in a hostile environment. I've made use of a photographic language that mimics the human eyesight of which about only 20% of it remains in focus, and kept within a linear optical setup as if the spectator was standing in the place of the lens. Utilizing a large format tecnical camera I underlined the contradiction between Iceland's awesome landscape and the chance of any human presence being there at the beginning of long and extreme winters in a territory where only few visitors venture to experience one of the last inhabitable frontiers.
These two trips in solitary work, and in such adverse conditions have rewarded me with a profound understanding of the photographic milieu, and with the appreciation of man's capacity to struggle in his quest to survive in places of inhospitable climate conditions.
Photography allows me create within the framework of real existence and conceive visual illusion in a concrete and predefined manner.

Road 1
Road 1 es un proyecto fotográfico realizado en Islandia en Octubre / Noviembre de 2013 y Octubre / Noviembre de 2014 .
Islandia, uno de los países más nuevos en términos geológicos, cercano al Círculo Polar Ártico, es un territorio hostil la mayor parte del año. Sus inviernos son largos e intensos. Sus volcanes, de los más activos del planeta, y su clima, bastante impredecible. Todo esto hace que su densidad de población sea una de las más bajas del planeta y que el 75 % viva en Reikiavik y sus alrededores. El resto del país está prácticamente deshabitado.
He realizado dos viajes fotográficos por la Road 1, la carretera principal que rodea Islandia, en la que he buscado interacciones humanas en entornos hostiles.
Utilizo un lenguaje fotográfico que me permite dirigir al observador en la visión de la imagen final, con una línea de foco similar a la de nuestros ojos, que es del 20% de lo que vemos. Mediante el uso de una cámara técnica de gran formato, con la que creo en la imagen una línea de foco óptica, aislando la contradictoria, sorprendente y solitaria presencia del ser humano en estos impresionantes y hostiles paisajes en el comienzo de su largo invierno cuando ya muy pocos viajeros se ven, buscando la huella del hombre en las fronteras de lo habitable.
Dos viajes de intenso trabajo en soledad y en semejante entorno, permiten una reflexión profunda sobre el medio fotográfico y la tremenda capacidad de adaptación del ser humano desde el comienzo de su existencia en la lucha por la supervivencia .
La fotografía me permite trabajar con la realidad existente de una forma concreta y predefinida, reconstruyendo paisajes visuales en las fronteras de nuestra existencia.
